Increase Community Awareness of and Patient Education on the Dangers of Opioids

Community awareness and patient education campaigns should be strategic. These preventive measures can provide and enhance knowledge of the dangers of opioids by implementing universal, selective, and indicated community campaigns and patient education (SAMSHA, 2018).

Universal - campaigns and education for the general public

Selective - targets specific individuals or a population sub-group

Indicated - targets specific high risk individuals for opioid dependence
